You need to be seventeen years old and have a provisional licence to begin driving lessons; to get this fill in a D1 form from the Post Office and send it to the DVLA with your passport or birth certificate and a passport sized photograph. You can also apply online via:

In 2006 the Driving Standards Agency estimated an average of forty-five hours of tuition plus an extra twenty-two hours of private practice is needed to pass your test, but remember, we all learn at different paces. Our two hour lessons and driving assistance will help you learn faster.

Some interesting driving lesson facts

The driving test was introduced to England in 1935, costing 37.5p to take with a pass rate of 63%. There were no driving tests during World War II or during the Suez Crisis.

  • April 1991 – Introduction of the reverse parking manoeuvre to the test
  • July 1996 – Theory test was introduced
  • November 2002 – Theory test expanded and hazard perception included
  • September 2003 – ‘Show me tell me’ vehicle safety questions were added at the beginning of the practical test
  • September 2007 – Theory test expanded from 35 to 50 questions
